I think I enjoyed the museum grounds
as much as the stuff inside the buildings.
The front of the main display building.
From the front of the previous building I saw this and was hooked.
A war memorial for the approximately 300 workers who died fighting in
World War 1.
A church for trains? Actually the old power house, built in 1902 to
supply electricity since there was no public supply. That said, notice
the wedding arch and seating under the tree.
The museum is free to all Queensland school trips. As one kid said,
"It is better than school".
The earliest shops on the site, made in a British style designed to
handle snow.
Newer styled shops, designed for maximum natural light.
The traverser. It shuttles
rolling stock between the various shops. Now it is mostly used to
shuttle people for tours.
A video of riding the traverser.
A couple more architecture shots.
According to my guide, bricks were removed from this doorway to
allow removal of big metal lathes. See the next section for an old
picture of one of the lathes.
Various items located around the grounds. Personally, I think those
rolls deserve a more covered location.
I don't know what this machine used to be but anything fitted with
"choppers" gets points in my book.
