"If it can be made, it can be made in
the Workshops". A great motto and attitude. From
what little I learned during our brief visit, that probably isn't much
of an exaggeration.
The Workshops Rail Museum is located in Ipswitch, about an hour's drive
from
Brisbane, Australia. I was drawn there by the possibility of some of
the original workshops being in place, and well, the desire to go to a
place called Ipswitch. I ended up liking this museum a lot and could
easily spend
another day there learning more about the workshops.

The Google map above shows a satelite view of The Workshops. It may not
be easy to tell from this view, but the site is huge and
sprawling. It is possible to see about one third of it from the public
and tour areas of the museum. Actually, only part of the site is museum
property, the rest being Queensland Rail properly actively used for
maintaining their heritage fleet. The museum entrance fee gets you
access to both.
I've only shown a bit of what the museum has to offer, broken into
sections below.
