Australian made, quality
machine with no motor, stand, pulleys, belt cover or blade guard
purchased
at auction. I think I only bought it because I thought it was cheap,
but
in retrospect it was about local market price. The logo reads
"Woodfast,
Manufactured by P. & H. Tools, Woodvale South Australia". The
design
of this jointer was no doubt based on similar vintage Delta machines.
The
fence design this jointer uses is quite good, especially for a jointer
of this size. It tilts in both directions from vertical, with positive
stops (that are actually accurate in use) at 45, 90 and 135 degrees.
Both
tilt and sliding of the fence is done with a single handle. To loosen
the
tilt lock, slide handle over left nut and turn. To loosen the slide
lock,
slide handle over right nut and turn.
I stripped, blasted, spray filled and painted it. Bearings were
replaced.
The tables are in excellent condition with all original machining still
there. The thin layer of rust was unusually tough and the old razor
blade
and Scotch Brite failed miserably. I ended up spending about 3 hours
with
a fine wire cup brush in the angle grinder, then finished up with the
Scotch
Brite. It turned out quite good although I could have spent some time
on
the round badge. I bought my big Sagar jointer just after
I finished painting this one.
